New Physio Jess

Describe your role in one sentence.

In the clinic, I get the opportunity to empower individuals on how to manage pain/injury, but also assist with them improving their performance by learning more about their bodies. I also have a role in workplace services where I observe, assess, and implement strategies to reduce and manage injuries at work.

What’s the best part of being a physio?

Watching my clients smash their goals we have set through their rehab journey. I also love when they feel empowered about learning about how strong their bodies are.

What’s the worst part of being a physio?

Not being able to fix everyone’s pain straight away, some things take time and I wish I could be an instant fix!

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I love going to the gym, watching and playing footy and coffee/walks!

Can you tell us something we probably don’t know about you?

I have alopecia areata (rapid hair loss) and currently only have 40% of my own hair, so I wear a wig at times.

Anything unusual about your childhood?

Nothing unusual, but I always loved playing sports. I represented Australia when I was 13 years old and got to travel lots as a child for sport (how lucky am I!!!).

What makes you smile?

Spending time with my partner Brad and cat Ellie, staying active and feeling like I’m making an impact with work.

What do you do to stay healthy?

I love going to the gym and now that I’m semi-retired from competition, I love spending spare time in the gym or getting lots of steps in.

Any health tips?

There’s no right way to be active but pick something you enjoy – not something you feel like you’re forcing yourself to do. Get lots of steps in through the day. Eat a sustainable diet with lots of variety. Sleep consistently and get your minimum 7 hours in each night.

Would you share a recipe?

I’m not too fancy when it comes to cooking and will generally go for chicken or kangaroo meals when food-prepping.  I know the Adamstown Bowling Club does a cracker snitty special on a Friday night though!!!
