NCIG Smash the Ethos Health RAPID Weight Loss Challenge

RAPID is a 6 week weight loss program that Ethos Health runs within workplaces. A relatively new product, it is growing in popularity due to the outcomes it has achieved. NCIG workforce took up the challenge in August last year. What made this program such a success was the engagement and support from senior management right through the business. Focused on the health and safety of their employees NCIG played an important role in facilitating the RAPID program which led to the whole business coming together to achieve a significant outcome, not only with regards to the feeling of wellbeing of their workforce, but also the long-term health outcomes of individuals and the business.

Individual Achievements

The overall winner of the RAPID program achieved a staggering weight loss of 15.2% of his body weight. The following top five participants lost 15%, 10.9%, 8.4% and 6.4% respectively a great effort also. For those whose main goal was to improve fitness there was a push up challenge and step challenge with the winners achieving 60 push ups in 1 minute and almost 50,000 steps throughout the 6 week period.

Whole Business Achievements

The total weight lost across the business was 210kg, which was an average of 4.3% weight loss for the 59 people who completed the final weigh in. Two hundred and ten kilograms is equivalent to: 

  • 7,770,000kJ
  • 647 days of fasting for an 70kg man with an energy requirement of 12,000kJ
  • 7,770 hours of walking
THE HEALTH IMPACT

A 4.3% weight loss has the potential to have a major impact both individuals health and the health of the workplace now and in the future. For most people a 5% weight loss is enough to have a legacy of reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in 10 years by 43%.

Further, aside from looking better and feeling more energetic, there are significant health benefits that you can’t always see or feel, but are nonetheless very important.
